This is a tabletop mortar with a floral pattern, fired at 800 degrees Celsius using the porcelain transfer method.
You can grind sesame seeds, bonito flakes, etc. at the table just before eating and sprinkle them on fried foods or blanched vegetables.
It has a spout, so it's also suitable for soups and other liquids.
